Mission Statement
The mission of ESL Studio of Honolulu is to empower a diverse population of non-native English speakers to confidently participate in an English-speaking community through instruction in language skills and cultural knowledge. I believe that learning occurs when curriculum, instructional material, and evidence-based teaching methods are tailored specifically to meet the student's needs and learning styles.
While living in a foreign country, people discover the extent of their language skills. People tend to be motivated to communicate in the common language in order to build relationships, engage in more complex and sophisticated endeavors, and become fully autonomous in their everyday life. For this reason, I would say that learning an additional language requires a partnership between the student and the teacher. It is a journey that takes time and commitment. It is a creative process that involves building knowledge, noticing new aspects about the language, becoming comfortable as a person who speaks an additional language, and being courageous.
